February 2009 Archives

The Vienna Connection published an article recently about our year-round Saturday market in Oakton:

A year-round farmers’ market, just a minute away from Route 123, has come to Oakton. From chicken freshly-butchered by Mennonite farmers to lean Piedmontese beef from Fauquier County cattle to hydroponic vegetables, freshly-baked breads and pastries and handcrafted pasta, there’s enough variety for most cooks … and diners.

“I saw a need from both the community’s point of view and the farmers’ point of view,” said Smart Markets creator and operator, Jean Janssen of Fairfax.

A visitor to one of our markets posted some nice words about us on her blog. At Hartke Is Online!, Kimberly Hartke writes:

Jean really knocks herself out at her markets, sharing recipes, doing tastings of food sourced from her farmers. She is a foodie extraordinaire! She makes a trip to the farmers market better than going to Costco or Whole Foods!

Her post includes some other thoughts as well as a recipe featured at a recent market. We appreciate her support! If you’re a blogger, consider adding a post to your blog about Smart Markets.
